Summary

SunPower Corporation is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join the product development team. Initially, this role will be responsible for two primary areas:

1. Designing and Developing standardized electrical components used in large scale PV systems, and
2. Specifying Technical Requirements and Qualifying vendor-supplied PV inverters for residential and commercial applications.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate with other members of the product development team to define design requirements
• Conceptualize communicate, and evaluate design options
• Efficiently and professionally execute the design of the preferred solution for productized electrical elements in a PV system using best practices
• Create prototypes using both internal and external resources
• Proactively assist with transition into manufacturing.
• Perform lab work to test and measure performance of designs and externally sourced components
• Evaluate technical and cost trade-offs and communicate major issues effectively

Education and Experience

• BS or MS degree in EE
• 2-5 years practical electrical engineering work experience
• Strong mechanical and electrical design aptitude
• Demonstrated ability to develop creative and innovative design solutions
• Electrical PE is highly desired, progress towards PE is critical

Skills/Knowledge

• Comfortable in hands-on environments
• Excellent written and verbal skills.
• Self motivated, with the ability to work both independently and with multiple cross disciplinary team members
• Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize tasks appropriately
• Familiarity with design of PV systems, PV inverters, NEC standards, UL and IEC standards all highly desirable
• Familiarity with ACAD and SolidWorks desirable
• Power supply design for residential applications (approximately 1200 Watts, 110-220 Volts)
• PCB design (a plus), Protel or CAD
• Power electronics design
• DC motors operation/design/theory, VFD (a plus)
• Design for FCC Part 15 and FCC Part 68 compliance

Qualifications

• Candidates must be legally entitled to work and reside in Spain
